An exhibition of student projects from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology and the FA BUT, dedicated to social housing

The presented projects respond to the complexity of the contemporary city – its density, diversity, and the changing needs of its inhabitants. The students propose housing complexes that go beyond the mere function of providing “a roof over one’s head.” They combine private and public spaces: commercial units appear on the ground floors, while inside, there are meeting places, shared work areas, and recreational zones. Housing becomes part of a larger, living organism.

In many concepts, community plays a key role. Shared gardens, terraces, and accessible rooftops are not additions, but tools for building relationships and neighbourhood solidarity. Architecture enables everyday encounters – fostering conversation, integration, and shared responsibility for space.

The projects explore various typologies – from compact forms referencing the tradition of the tenement house or urban block, to more open multi-family housing developments. This diversity of forms reflects the flexibility of solutions that can respond to local contexts and users’ needs.

A common denominator of all the concepts is the ambition to create an accessible, multigenerational living environment. These proposals address real challenges: rising housing prices, the need for social integration, the adaptation of cities to climate change, and an aging society. Here, architecture becomes not only a response to crises, but also an impulse to build a more sustainable and solidaristic future.
