The Universal Architectural Manual
The Universal Architectural Manual (UAM) aims to establish a technological platform that will connect cities, municipalities and other entities dedicated to preserving architectural and cultural heritage. This will be achieved by the methodology developed by the Brno Architectural Manual (BAM).
Several initiatives have already successfully built upon the Brno concept, and as of 2023, a further six architectural manuals are using the methodological guidelines and original IT web solution of the BAM. This solution can be adapted to different graphic designs or modified according to the needs of individual cities.
However, a major limitation of these new manuals is their lack of mutual functional integration. The project's authors intend to address this issue by developing the UAM, which will unify existing databases, convert their content into a shared platform and facilitate further development.
The UAM will make it easier to onboard additional entities, including international ones, enable the creation of multilingual versions, modernise the database originally developed by BAM in cooperation with Via Aurea programmers and improve the functionality of its editorial interface.
The new platform will offer a pre-configured web interface and allow the use of UAM content (texts and visual material) within defined rules to streamline access to and work with information. A key ambition of the UAM is to expand the reach of the platform beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.
