THE COMPREHENSIBLE ARCHITECTURE

The main goal of the COMPREHENSIBLE ARCHITECTURE project is to strengthen and expand the competences of educators in creative learning related to architecture mediation. This includes master's and doctoral students and teaching staff from the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology (hereinafter “FA BUT”) and the Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University (hereinafter “KVV PdF MU”), as well as participating architects, architecture theorists, art education theorists, and teachers from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.

This goal will be achieved by developing a long-term, conceptually grounded inter-university collaboration. Specifically, steps will be taken to integrate the topic of architecture mediation into teaching at FA BUT (through the accredited course “Popularisation of Architecture – BAM”) as well as into the programs “Gallery Pedagogy and Mediation of Art” and “Didactics of Art Education” at KVV PdF MU. Selected lecturers and PhD students from both universities will actively participate in teaching these courses to encourage professional knowledge exchange.

Other joint activities supporting the long-term objective include hosting a symposium and workshops with professionals from the fields of architecture, visual arts, and art mediation.

Additionally, cooperation with kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools in Brno and its surroundings will be expanded and deepened by designing four educational program concepts focused on architecture mediation, which will be tested in selected schools.

Effective and meaningful mediation relies on clarity, simplification of professional architectural language, and the selection of appropriate methods of experiential and creative learning. For these reasons, the applicant (FA BUT) will implement the project in close cooperation with representatives of KVV PdF MU and professionals in the fields of education and art mediation.

The implementation of the project will lead to inter-university and interdisciplinary cooperation, creating a synergistic effect for both institutions. Broadly, the project addresses methods of communicating architectural thinking and contemporary topics within the field. The outcomes may support a better understanding of the causes and consequences of the current form of our shared environment, contributing to more active civic engagement.
